P.A.W.S. puts as much importance on the education of our clients as well as training their dogs. Many times the question arises, "Why do I need a Dog Psychology class?" It isn't much good to the owner if the trainer understands what is happening and the owner doesn't. The trainer doesn't live with the dog, the owner does! We know the "tricks of the trade", it's our job to teach them to you so you approach different situation as a trainer would.

Basic Obedience has many benefits in everyday situations. However, "How do I get across to my dog what I want him to do, what techniques do I use, and what about behavior problems that occur around the house?" This is where the Dog Psychology class becomes the centerpiece of all training. Everything we do with a dog revolves around this class. A dogs' perception determines their performance. Let me repeat that statement "A dogs' perception determines their performance." The pet owner needs to understand how a dog thinks, functions and perceives things in order to give proper instruction to gain desired results.

What the dog is "actually doing" is seldom the problem. The problem lies behind "why" he is doing it, and there is where we find our solutions to those problems. The Dog Psychology class is designed to educate the owner in behavior and obedience techniques. This is so the owner can take charge of the pet's behavior and feel in control over everyday situations and problems that may arise. Many times clients have regained control over an unruly pet just by simply participating in the Psychology class.

In some instances there is no need for further lessons. It is the single most important lesson a pet owner will ever have and is the best way to gain immediate results. Many breeders familiar with P.A.W.S. require their first time puppy owners to take this class so that they are better equipped to raise this new addition to the family. In all training, the pet owner should understand what is happening, and why it is happening.
